Two questions about Powder

Postby dchamp » Fri Jan 02, 2015 1:48 am

1. Which powder('s) do you like the most for the cartridges you load for?

Example; I have had good luck with Vihtavuori N550 with my 8x68 - 180gr bullets and .375H&H - 300gr bullets and 7X57 - 140gr bullets.
6xc - IMR4350, 7STW - VVN570, 8mm Rem Mag - MRP & 8X57 - IMR3031

2. Has anyone heard of or used Reload-Swiss powders? I've heard they may become available in the US sometime in the future, but know little about them.

We have the Swiss Reload available here, but I only use Vihtavuori powders because I can get them always...

There are a few friends that use SR and they say it is good.

I was long time Vihtavuori user because it was the only powder which was always available in Slovakia (except former Accurate powders, made by czech company Explosia, now Lovex powders). Now I use Hodgdon powders, Varget and H4350 for smaller calibers and my 300 Win Mag loves the H1000 with heavy bullets. I also use from time to time the Reload Swiss powders, for example the RS40 in 9,3x62 for light leadfree bullets, the RS60 for high power loads in 7mm-08 (it's the same powder like Reloader 17, very low pressures, high power but also temp sensitive) and the RS62 for accuracy loads in 6,5x47 Lapua. But I found also some fine hunting loads for 300 Win Mag with RS62 and Hornady Interbond 180gr. bullet (my friend's soft recoiling cartridge for red stags). I like experimenting with different components so I'm not sticked with one powder.
The only problem with quality powders is the availability so I'm always forced to buy bigger drums or whole paper box with small 1lbs. bottles.
Every Shot Counts...
