So, the IWA 2016 is behind us and with Swarovski introducing its new, top-line scope (named Z8i), I believe that it will be really useful to provide a comparison between Zeiss V8 and Swarovski Z8i. This on- paper comparison consists of an objective technical comparison which was provided by both manufacturers, and also a subjective description of the advantages between one scope versus the other. I would like to be immediately clear here, that within the subjective section, it is not my intention to tell you which model is better, but rather, which features I liked more based on my own experiences. Therefore, the subjective part will focus a little bit more on long-range shooting, but hopefully everyone can find this information helpful. Blaser R8 Rifle Barrels Review
The Blaser R8 rifle can be had with several barrel lengths, the standard profile barrel for standard calibers is 22 ¾” but an optional short barrel is also available. The short barrel is 20 ½“ and comes at a higher cost, about a 40% premium. The short barrel is handier, but how much velocity do you loose and what about accuracy?
I thought it might be interesting to take a look at these two questions because I don’t think these factors are well understood. My favorite R8 barrel is a short, semi-weight, fluted barrel with sights chambered in 9.3X62. I’ve found this barrel to be wonderfully accurate and handles like a dream. But I’m often asked, “don’t you give up a lot of velocity with that short barrel”? And “surely it can’t be as accurate as a longer barrel, I bet you give up a lot of range don’t you?” [Read more…] about Blaser R8 Rifle Barrels Review

G1 vs G7 ballistic coefficient
What is the ballistic coefficient?
Basically the ballistic coefficient(BC) is a measure of how well a bullet penetrates the air. It depends on bullet weight, cross-sectional area and form factor. BC is measured in lb/in².
G1 vs G7 ballistic coefficient, which is better?
The simple answer to that is the G1 value normally works better for shorter flat-based bullets, while the G7 value should work better for longer, boat-tailed bullets. Usually G1 BC are higher than G7 which doesn’t mean we should use the higher one but that one that is more suitable for our bullet. We can find out this by simply look at the bullets we are using. If the bullet is a flat base bullet similar to fig.1 we use G1 BC if the bullet is a boat tail similar to the fig.2 we use G7 BC. [Read more…] about G1 vs G7 ballistic coefficient
Blaser R8 .338 Lapua Magnum Review
It has been a lot of time that we were waiting this to happen and this year at IWA 2015 they have showed it. However what they did it was not just a new barrel with a .338lm chamber but much more. In this article it is not my intention to talk about performance of the new Blaser Long Range in .338lm. What I want to clarify is how they made some things possible and how can an existing Blaser R8 owner install a .338lm barrel on its rifle. [Read more…] about Blaser R8 .338 Lapua Magnum Review
